Martha's Task is an organization in Bartlesville, OK, that teaches women with no income and battered women to learn to produce goods that can be sold on the open market. This increases their self esteem as well as producing some income. The women are paid a small wage while they are in the process of learning the skill. It also helps the women learn how to market and sell their products. Examples of skills: sewing to produce artful products like sweaters, coats, jackets; they also design and produce jewelry; they make curtains, etc. The object is to teach them a home-based skill that will produce some income.
