About Marshall County Community Kitchen
Marcella's Kitchen is the only community kitchen in Marshall County, Kentucky. We serve lunch from 11 am to 1 pm, Monday thru Friday, to anyone who shows up at our door -- no qualification needed. The entire staff are volunteers -- approximately 150 -- rotating through the kitchen every two weeks. Meals include an entree, vegetables, bread, dessert, and drinks (tea, coffee, water). The kitchen was founded in May of 2011. Since that time, the need for service continues to increase. The kitchen was founded by Marcella Perkins and Grace Forte. It was there vision to feed the hungry in Marshall County. But it is more than just feeding empty stomachs. For many of our guests (and even volunteers), this is a place of love and community. The social aspects of sitting and sharing the meal are ever present in the kitchen. It is often the only time that we get to spend time with each other and share a good laugh or just talk about the weather. As of 2016, we share the building with the Marshall County Lions Club. Our goal is raise enough funds to move into our own building (with an adequate kitchen) in Benton, Kentucky. This will allow us to serve more in need, especially latch-key kids in the summer and school holidays, when food may be short in their own homes.
