Description
The Mariners’ Museum, America’s National Maritime Museum, is one of the most comprehensive maritime history museums in the world. For more than 75 years, the Museum has illustrated the spirit of seafaring adventure, assembling a renowned and strikingly diverse collection of 35,000 maritime artifacts, including paintings, figureheads, ship models, decorative arts, and small craft from around the world. The Mariners' library at Christopher Newport University holds the largest maritime history collection in the Western Hemisphere.
The Museum is situated among 550 acres of naturally wooded property that it owns and maintains, providing visitors with a quiet and serene place to walk, run, or picnic. Within the Park is the 167-acre Lake Maury, named for the famed 19th-century oceanographer and native Virginian.
Visitors are welcomed Wednesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and on Sunday from noon to 5 pm. Additional information is available online at www.MarinersMuseum.org
