Mallarmé Chamber Players is a nationally acclaimed ensemble of professional musicians, performing in mixed ensembles of three to seven artists. Mallarmé's mission is to perform music among friends that serves to honor the artists and the art of chamber music, to expand cultural awareness, and to build bridges in the community through education and performance.
Created in 1984, the ensemble's namesake is Stéphane Mallarmé, the 19th-century French poet and philosopher who believed that true art is created through a unity of music, dance, literature and the visual arts. And so, Mallarmé performances are often interdisciplinary and have been praised by critics and audiences as innovative and of the highest artistic quality.
With the most gifted artists from North Carolina's Piedmont, Mallarmé performs programs that include rarely heard works from the traditional chamber music repertoire, and celebrates diversity by featuring the music of various cultures.
