Malignant Hyperthermia (MH) Strikes Fast! The MH crisis might begin with the administration of anesthetics during surgery or might not occur until the operation is completed and the patient is in the recovery room. The MH crisis includes a rise in heart rate, increased body metabolism, muscle rigidity, and/or fever in excess of 110°F; but may also include cardiac arrest, brain damage, internal bleeding and other body system failure. If not treated with the antidote, dantrolene, death is very likely to result.
Malignant Hyperthermia Association of the United States (MHAUS) is the only association in North America dedicated to the control of the life-threatening genetic disorder by: Improving medical care related to malignant hyperthermia, Providing support information to patients, and Improving the scientific understanding and research related to MH and other kinds of heat-related syndromes.
