Making It Better was founded in 2006 by Jerry Davis, a former Westside High School Dean of Students and head lacrosse coach, to address the severe disadvantages faced by low income children in the Houston area. MIB offers a variety of programs that are tailored to meet the needs of each campus. Whether the program is academic or enrichment, delivered during or after school, on a school campus or in an apartment-based program; MIB’s student: teacher ratio is always low (4:1 academics and 8:1 enrichment) and its goals are always the same . . . developing relationships and improving self-esteem by sparking creativity, fostering the desire to succeed, developing social skills, and expanding life experiences. MIB is the only agency providing tutoring services at no cost to at-risk children in west Houston.
