Description
MAKE WAY FOR BOOKS promotes early literacy in limited-resource areas of Tucson and southern Arizona by giving children birth through age 5 opportunities to fall in love with books and reading. We provide family literacy and child-care reading readiness services to help ensure that all children will enter kindergarten with the necessary skills to be successful in school and in life.
Early literacy experiences are critical to a young child’s brain development and success in school. Yet, half the kindergartners in many areas are starting school without basic reading readiness skills. Let’s make sure even our most disadvantaged children have quality early literacy experiences: books, adults who read to them, and reading readiness activities. Children who are ready for kindergarten are more likely graduate from high school, get good jobs, and avoid a life of crime.
