Description
The mission statement of The Madison County Literacy Coalition is simply “…so that all can read.” Its mission is to provide literacy services to adults and children who lack functional reading and writing skills, and to adults who speak English as their second language. At The Literacy Center, struggling adult readers are matched individually with volunteer tutors.
Children who lag behind their peers in reading and language arts may participate in after-school “reading fun” programs or may be matched with a “reading buddy” who spends time with them individually during their school day to read a book or play a word game.
