Description
Machik is a non-governmental, non-profit organization whose mission is to support innovative strategies that promote the sustainable development and strengthening of local communities in the Himalayan region and neighboring areas. We prioritize community-based, environmentally sound initiatives that draw on socially innovative and entrepreneurial solutions to education, environmental protection, women’s empowerment, economic development, and health issues. Machik also engages in research that serves the purpose of the overall mission of the organization. We seek to advance projects that are respectful of local cultural heritage, that strengthen traditional skills and knowledge, and that encourage creativity through handicrafts and other forms of art.
