In its 30-year history, the Group Repertory Theatre and Lonny Chapman have won almost every drama award imaginable and many special awards from the community for its work with young people, seniors and the physically impaired.
Eight actor's started it all in 1972 when they transformed a Laundromat into a Theatre. They realized that they needed someone to guide and direct them. That someone was Lonny Chapman, who provided an artistic mission, vision and focus for their work.
One hundred and seventy-five productions later, the Group's home is now located at 10900 Burbank Blvd. in North Hollywood. It is one of the largest and most inviting Equity 99-seat theatres in the city of Los Angeles.
The play choices are eclectic and offbeat. Lonny recently said in a Los Angeles Times article, "You can be bad, but you don't have to be dull!"
Each year they hold a Holiday party for needy area children.
