Description

To assist the Christian church on Long Island in the responsible evangelism of at risk youth and their families, providing them with hope through caring relationships and developmental opportunities for the whole person (spiritual, mental, physical, social).

Long Island Youth Mentoring began in 1981 under the name of Long Island Youth Guidance. We were initially a program of Long Island Youth For Christ. The original mission was to start a new mentoring division of their ministry with a desire to minister to children who do not normally do well in group settings. The targeted kids were those who act out or those who are friendless. Hence the start of a one on one mentoring ministry to troubled kids.
Since this initial start, we have expanded to:
a mothers' ministry,a tutoring ministry,a ministry to girls living in institutions,pen pal ministries.
