Description
Living Traditions is a national non-profit committed to the celebration and continuity of community-based, traditional Yiddish culture. We don’t view yidishkayt as a symbol of a lost world, nor as customs that are our “duty” to perpetuate. Instead, Living Traditions strives to bring the lush bounty of this cultural heritage to new generations in ways both inspiring and relevant to contemporary Jewish life.
For 23 years, KlezKamp -- our week-long festival in NY’s Catskill Mountains -- has featured workshops, lectures, and concerts of Yiddish music, dance, song, theatre, visual arts, foodways, and more. Living Traditions also produces CDs by both legendary and new klezmer artists, and publishes books on Yiddish cultural themes. Our database of digitalized 78 rpm Yiddish music recordings will soon be online for study and enjoyment. From cyber technology to one-on-one instruction, Living Traditions uses every means available to preserve, teach, and spread Yiddish culture.
