Founded in 1996, Little Stars School provides a free education (providing school supplies, lunch, and tuition) for over 800 children living in the slums of Varanasi, the holiest city in India. Little Stars is the only K-10 school in Varanasi that meets the needs of poor families who cannot afford to buy the school supplies and books needed for their children to attend the tuition-free government schools.
The school receives no government support or funding from large agencies and thus is completely dependent on sponsorships and private donations to continue running.
Little Stars is currently expanding into a new building that will host the 11th and 12th grade, and will provide a variety of new facilities, including a science lab, a playground, and a library.
Donations can be made through The Gupta Foundation and mail it at: 8616 Seminole Street, Philadelphia, PA 19118-3729.
