Literacy Nassau

Literacy Nassau (New York) believes that the ability to read and communicate is the shortest distance to individual, social, and economic development. Since 1968, Literacy Nassau has been committed to promoting and fostering quality literacy activities in Nassau County among adult learners and their families in the hope that the critical tools of reading and writing will eradicate the dependence, vulnerability, and marginalism caused by illiteracy and low literacy. Literacy Nassau services approximately 1000 Basic English Literacy and English to Speakers of Other Languages students with trained volunteer tutors each year. Our organization provides a full complement of educational services for both the student and tutor at less than half the cost of any other educational facility in Nassau County. We serve the “hardest to teach and the hardest to reach”.
