Description
Owosso’s Lincoln High School offers the only alternative education program throughout Shiawassee County's eight school districts. With an enrollment of over 190 students during the 2007-2008 school year, the program continues to grow. The majority of the students who attend Lincoln are referred by Owosso High School because they are at-risk academically and/or behaviorally. An additional twenty percent of the total school enrollment is school-of-choice students from other districts in Shiawassee County and neighboring counties. Seventy five percent of the school population qualifies for free or reduced lunch. At least ten percent of those under eighteen are homeless by definition of living independently, or with non-relatives. Over twenty five percent of the female students are either pregnant or parenting. The district employs a full time school social worker to work at the school.
