For almost 50 years, the Lincoln Children’s Zoo has provided Lincoln-area children with the opportunity to learn firsthand about the Zoo’s many special critters. Our mission is to enrich lives through firsthand interaction with living things. We strive to provide our visitors with unique ways to connect with the natural environment and instill a love for the environment in young children. The Zoo builds strong families through education hands on learning, outside activities, and by providing a place for family members to spend quality time together. The Lincoln Children’s Zoo is a treasure for Nebraska as it is one of only five zoos in the nation dedicated to educating our youth. The Zoo’s design is tailored specifically for children- providing viewing areas at a child’s height, animals that are within reach, and easy-to-read signs. The Lincoln Children’s Zoo has numerous hands-on learning exhibits, such as Wrangler Roundup, Laura’s Butterfly Pavilion, The Hive, and Critter Outpost which encourages children to touch the animals and ask questions of the staff. This one-on-one interaction makes lasting memories, and inspires children of all ages to not only care about nature, but to take action to protect our environment. Additionally the Zoo conducts extensive outreach into the community at schools, assisted living facilities and many other formal and informal educational settings. Every year the Lincoln Children’s Zoo serves over 185,000 “children” of all ages. All of this accomplished with NO TAX dollars for operations. The Lincoln Children’s Zoo is 100% dependent on earned revenues and donations such as admissions and contributions from our community.
