Description
The Lewis County Humane Society is a no-kill animal shelter. We have no paid staff and the building was built and donated by our Executive Director. One hundred percent of the money raised goes to the care and feeding of our stray population. We house companion animals for 16 of the 17 towns in our county as well as one of the towns in the next county. We receive no financial assistance and keep all animals until they are placed in a new home. We operate on the 3-too policy in regard to euthanisia. The animal is only euthanized if it is too sick, too injured or too aggressive. We spay/neuter and provide shots for any aggressive cats and send them to participating farmers. Before deciding to take these final steps we try everything under our power to try to get the animal adoptable. As mentioned before, ALL of our staff are volunteers who are here for the good of the animals.
