Description

The Leadership Training Institute (LTI) is a mentorship and leadership program that aims to create a sustainable community of diverse students and staff who all share a common belief in the integration of leadership philosophies, community service, and comprehension of self- identity into all aspects of their lives.

As an organization, LTI fundamentally believes in the value of Pay-It-Forward. The schematic above illustrates how the program tries to achieve this goal. Mentor training sessions give undergraduates the skills needed to lead activities and guide discussions during sessions. During the Leadership Program, these mentors work with high school students in the local community; in return, mentors also benefit from learning from the personal experiences these high school students bring to the program. High school students receive one-on-one mentoring with college students while learning and practicing leadership skills. After reflecting upon the lessons conveyed in the curriculum, high school students then design and implement a Service Project that targets an issue they observe in their own communities.
