Description
Founded in 1979 as part of the University of Houston, Lawndale became independent and received its own non-profit status in 1989. Since its founding, Lawndale’s programs have exemplified its mission: Lawndale Art Center is dedicated to the presentation of contemporary art with an emphasis on work by area artists. Lawndale presents exhibitions, lectures and events to further the creative exchange of ideas among the region’s diverse, artistic, cultural and student communities. Lawndale’s programming includes seven rounds of four exhibitions annually in over four thousand square feet of gallery space. These exhibitions are programmed by a committee of area artists and arts professionals. Lawndale also programs a variety of educational events throughout the year including performances, lectures, symposiums and film screenings.
