Description
Established in September of 1974 as the nonprofit arm of the AFL-CIO with a mission “to serve the general welfare of the community and to advocate for health and human service programs that adequately meet the needs of all members of the community, especially the most vulnerable and dependent.” To accomplish this mission we implement a wide variety of social-service programs that include transitional and long-term affordable housing (we own and operate 92 units); owner-occupied home rehabilitation; new construction of single-family homes and apartments (we are a licensed contractor); foreclosure intervention (default/delinquency housing counseling); job training for disadvantaged youth through YouthBuild; providing cars for homeless families; and an emergency relief fund for crisis situations.
