Description
Children are our future! But many of the foster youths who had gone through physical and/or emotional abuses by their own parents are more likely to become homeless or criminals in their future. Konnichiwa Little Tokyo Day program gives them the opportunity to broaden their horizons while having fun in a relaxing environment. Konnichiwa Little Tokyo, a volunteer lead effort in partnership with organizations and businesses in Little Tokyo in downtown Los Angeles, host cultural enrichment outings for American foster children. The day's activity includes a guided walk through locations of historical significance such as the Japanese American National Museum, talks provided by a Buddhist monk, participation in Taiko And Origami workshops, as well as an opportunity to taste Japanese foods and beverages. The program started in summer 2009, and about 200 guests from foster group homes and institutions have enjoyed the program since then.
