Description
KIPP DC is a network of high performing public charter schools whose mission is to create and sustain the highest quality school system for the communities most underserved in Washington, D.C.
At KIPP, we believe that there are no shortcuts in life and that all students can learn regardless of their life circumstances or difficult backgrounds. KIPP students are the hardest working students in DC, spending 40% more time than students in traditional schools. Students attend school from 7:45 am to 5:00 pm during the week, four hours on Saturdays and 11 months of the year. KIPP DC students engage in 6 to 7 hours of instruction per day, including 1½ hours of math and reading and an hour of writing daily. Students also study science, history, Spanish, P.E., orchestra, computers and social studies. Mandatory Saturday School offers enrichment activities, such as ballet, drama, photography, chess, African dance, robotics, art, drum line, and lacrosse.
