Description
Kids 'n Kinship's mission is to provide friendships and positive adult volunteer role models to children ages 5-16 who are primarily from single parent families. The goal is that the adults who are matched with the youth will form a long term friendship with them. Through a relationship with a volunteer, the children receive positive attention, experience a variety of activities, and are helped to develop the sense of self-worth that is essential to successfully functioning in school, in healthy relationships, and eventually on the job.
Adult volunteers befriend children and commit to spend time on a weekly basis with a child. Volunteers can be individuals, couple or families. The children are referred to the program through social service agencies, churches, schools, or by request from the parent. Information on the child's needs, interests, and personality are gathered through a visit to the child's home. An appropriate volunteer is then sought.
