Organized in 1991, the Kentucky Historical Society Foundation, a 501 ( C ) 3 organization, exists to support the work of the Kentucky Historical Society. Funds raised provie for educational programs and services, exhibitions, collections acquisition and care, and community outreaching activities.
The Kentucky Historical Society is headquartered at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in Frankfort, Kentucky. The Society also operates the Kentucky Military History Museum and the Old State Capitol. Major programs include the Martin F. Schmidt Research Library, one of Kentucky's premier family history and genealogical research repositories; the Kentucky Oral History Commission; the Kentucky Folklife Program; the Kentucky Historymobile; the Kentucky Historic Highway Markers; and twenty additional ongoing programs.
