An estimated 57.7 million adults in the U.S. suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year, but affordable resources for long-term and lasting treatment are increasingly remote. For thirty-five years, Karis Community has been the only residential therapeutic community for mental health treatment in all of Colorado, and one of a very few nation-wide. Karis takes a unique and innovative approach to therapy that has resulted in a rich history of service and a cost-effective, personalized alternative to hospitalization. The foundation of Karis is the Empowerment Program, which stresses that all people have strengths and skills to build upon and that they have the power to take control of their lives.
