Description
The Joni's Angels program has been designed to benefit children with life-threatening illness and their families. Our volunteers are high school students from Orange County area high schools in need of community service hours required for graduation, and who want to work at the bedside of the kids in the hospital. We have identified the positive effects of reading, interactive play and companionship at the bedside of the child, while providing a window of time in which the family can be away to tend to other life-matters. An important part of our program includes an emphasis on volunteerism and giving back to the community. The children love the volunteer interaction and the teens come away with a fulfillment that they never anticipated. We currently operate in the Fountain Valley Regional Hospital in California and are looking forward to expanding our program to pediatric needs cross-county in 2009.
