Description
Jewel Heart is an educational and cultural institute whose doors are open to all. Its purpose is to transmit the essence of Tibetan Buddhism in an authentic and accessible way. Jewel Heart provides guidance and practical methods to anyone interested in spiritual development, as well as to those who wish to engage in Buddhist practice.
Jewel Heart offers graduated study programs based on teachings by Gehlek Rimpoche as well as workshops, public talks and retreats. Jewel Heart engages spirituality through community service such as prison programs and support for hospice workers. Jewel Heart supports the education of young monks, a school in rural Tibet and the welfare of senior Tibetan lamas. Gehlek Rimpoche, born in Lhasa, Tibet in 1939, is among the last generation of incarnate lamas to be educated in old Tibet. In 1987 he founded Jewel Heart in Ann Arbor, MI and presently has chapters in New York, Cleveland, Chicago, and Lincoln, NE, the Netherlands and Malaysia.
