International Institute of Buffalo


Welcoming the world to Western New York since 1918…The IIB seeks to strengthen Western New York by assisting refugees and immigrants to become independent, informed and contributing members of the community, and by promoting and supporting cultural competence, multiculturalism and global connectedness throughout the region. The IIB offers refugee resettlement including ESL classes and employment training;services to victims of human trafficking and domestic violence; translation and interpretation; and educational programming from cultural competency workshops for businesses to health advocacy for refugees to Model UN for high school students. In 2012 the IIB resettled refugees from Bhutan, Burma, Eritrea, Iran, Iraq, Somalia and Sudan into Western New York.
