Description
Intercommunity Housing Association (IHA) is a not-for-profit serving the poor of St. Louis with safe affordable housing. Our mission is “to provide an environment, which empowers families to determine their own future and to do so, on a foundation of personal dignity, security, and growth”. We provide strong educational, financial, and social support for the families of Pillar Place and Compton Place. The families come from generational poverty, living well below the poverty line. We provide tutoring for the children, day and overnight camps, and recreational/educational activities during the summer. For the adults, we provide programs for budgeting, energy conservation, safety, employment skills, and parenting. IHA has library and computer lab available to all residents. IHA serves 40 adults and 90 children. IHA has two employees, the full time-executive director and part-time development director. Approximately 60 regular volunteers perform the balance of the work of IHA.
