Description
Since 1989, the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle has been fighting hunger through developing unique systems to recover, prepare, and distribute wholesome, perishable food for the area’s poor, hungry, undernourished, and homeless. It is a wheel in motion. The Food Shuttle has developed integral linkages between community for-profit and non-profit food providers by serving as the conduit between them. Donations of unsellable, perishable but useable foods go safely from private vendors to non-profit agencies through the Food Shuttle’s refrigerated trucks. At the agencies, the Food Shuttle finds individuals to enroll in the Culinary Job Training Program, and during the training they prepare wholesome foods to go to the very agencies from where they came. It is about fighting poverty while using the bounty of nutritious, perishable food to feed themselves and their families. The Food Shuttle brings all of it together so precious resources are not wasted.
