Description
Independence Unlimited, Inc. (IU) is a non-profit, non-residential center for independent living based in Hartford, Connecticut that provides a variety of services and supports to assist persons with disabilities in attaining and maintaining an independent lilfestyle in the community of their choice. Services include but are not limited to information and referral, skills training, peer counseling, advocacy (both individual and systems), transition services to assist in moving from institutions into the community and community education about various disability related-topics. IU also provides demonstrations and training on assistive technology that enables person with disabilities to do many daily living tasks more independently. IU's Youth Initiative provides an opportunity for youth ages 14 to 22 to develop leadership and self-advocacy skills.
