Description
The Illinois Health Education Consortium (IHEC) is a not-for-profit organization that operates the AHEC (Area Health Education Center) Centers in Illinois. Since our beginning in 1991, IHEC has worked to ensure that Illinoisans have access to a high quality and culturally competent healthcare workforce.
The IHEC mission is to improve health care for the underserved through community health promotion activities, health professions education, and health careers development.
Our AHEC Centers fulfill this mission in many ways, including:
- Encouraging young people from minority and rural populations to pursue health careers.
- Facilitating community-based education for health profession students.
- Implementing community health and prevention programs.
- Forming partnerships between providers, academic institutions, healthcare organizations, and communities.
