Our mission is to protect & promote the well-being of animals & to foster positive relationships between animals & people.

Since 1888, the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County has been working toward a more compassionate world for people and animals. We are best known for our role in finding homes for animals, our spay and neuter programs, animal welfare and protection programs, education, and literacy work with children and pets.

We open our doors to more animals than any other shelter in the state of Washington.

We are an independent non-profit organization with 501(c) 3 status. We depend upon donations and are not a governmental agency nor are we affiliated with or funded by any national animal welfare organization.
