HAI (Hospital Audiences, Inc.) harnesses the arts for Hope And Inspiration: hope to overcome challenges, and inspiration to persevere. Through HAI’s arts programs, New Yorkers who typically do not have access to cultural experiences gain confidence, develop communication skills, learn about public health issues, and experience the refreshment of spirit provided by the arts. Service recipients include at-risk youth, people with mental and physical disabilities, the frail elderly, mentally retarded/developmentally disabled persons, homeless single adults and families, and persons with HIV/AIDS. Since its inception in 1969, HAI has provided an audience totaling more than 11.4 million individuals with opportunities to enjoy the live arts at more than 355,000 events.
