Description
We're building the first dedicated children's hospital in Uganda for Ugandan Catholic Archbishop Paul Bakyenga.
In Uganda, 1 child in 7 dies before 5 years of age. In Mbarara Archdiocese, 13,000 children under 5 die each year from malaria, respiratory infection, dysentery and other treatable and preventable diseases.
The archdiocese has operated 2 adult hospitals and 18 clinics for decades, but they lack money to build a children’s hospital.
We began in 2007 to help the Archbishop realize his dream. The first 60-bed in-patient wing and 10-bed out-patient facility is 85% complete and will open in early 2009. We need help to finish construction and provide initial start-up expenses, after which the archdiocese will take over the operating budget.
