Description
Holy Cross was founded in 1939 by the Society of Jesus to serve the African American Catholics of Durham, NC. It is a small, diverse, energetic cohesive community of about 300 located in the midst of the rapidly expanding campus of neighboring North Carolina Central University. Our plans to expand at our present location were changed rather unexpectedly by the University's need and bid for our property. As a result of that situation, we must relocate and build a new facility, with the hope of moving our historic original church building so that it will not be competely destroyed. This is a big move for a small parish and requires much fund raising in addition to our ongoing Capital Campaign Drive. We plan to provide a new place for worship & gathering, preserve our identity and heritage, continue to participate in community outreach programs and encourage the education of youth while fostering family values.
