Description
Holden School is a small, alternative school that provides special education and support services to address diagnoses of learning disabilities, emotional disturbance and mental illness. The school is approved by the Commonwealth of Mass. and the City of Boston to provide a full curriculum under the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act.
Our students are coping with poverty, abusive home situations, discrimination and violent environments. Many are in state custody for protective or corrective reasons. In addition to education, they receive counseling and behavior management skills to help them cope with the sadness and anger caused by their experiences. Students experience successes in the school and can build upon those to achieve new successes.
The school also focuses on helping students prepare for the transition to independent adulthood by gaining the skills needed for employment or continued education as well as housing, citizenship and social skills.
