Description
The Historical Society of Southern California (HSSC), founded in 1883, is the oldest continuously operating organizaton in California devoted to the preservation, exploration, and promotion of the history of the state.
HSSC is a membership organization with a wide variety of programs including the care of the historic home of Charles Fletcher Lummis (CA state landmark #541; also listed on the National Register of Historic Places), tours, lectures, the publication of the Southern California Quarterly, support for scholarly research in partnership with the John Randolph Haynes and Dora Haynes Foundation, and a K-12 educational outreach program titled "Keeping History Alive!"
HSSC has had a 501(c) designation since 1948.
