Description
• Established in 1975, Helping Hands for the Disabled is an organization that houses developmentally disabled adults in a supportive and caring environment. Their aim is to not just house the residents but to provide a place for residents to thrive and live long, full and happy lives. Helping Hands provides an alternative to short term nursing facilities and institutions that merely aim to meet their residents’ basic needs. While they currently don’t serve a large population, they believe that quality should always come before quantity. Every resident is an individual and is treated as such.
Helping Hands has 4 residential group homes that house adults of varying abilities. Two of which are Intensive Tenant Support facilities for residents that require more care. All homes are staffed 24 hours a day to care for the residents. They plan activities, get the residents involved in the community and help find jobs for residents that want to work. In general their goal is to assist residents realize their full potential. These are not short term care facilities, the houses become residents’ homes where they can build their own lives and still receive the care they need. Five of the current residents have been with the organization since it was established.
Helping Hands is a small and relatively unknown organization, but they make a big impact on the lives of their residents and the community. Hopefully with the support of GoodSearch, they will be able to gain recognition and expand their organization to share their services with those many others that need it.
