Description
Our mission is to help individuals of all ages who are blind or visually impaired, and who may have additional disabilities, to develop independence and to participate actively in their communities. Since 1893, we have served thousands of blind and visually impaired individuals throughout the New York metropolitan area. Headquartered in Brooklyn, the agency has additional rehabilitation sites in Hempstead and Huntington, Long Island. The agency also operates the Helen Keller National Center for Deaf-Blind Youths and Adults in Sands Point, New York, with regional offices around the country. Our programs include low vision screenings, rehabilitation programs, employment/job placement, services for students and senior citizens, day treatment for individuals with developmental disabilities, training in adaptive technology, and recreational programs.
