About Us
Harris Home for Children, Incorporated is located in Huntsville, Alabama. It is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) agency licensed by the Alabama Department of Human Resource as a foster care institution and child placement agency. The Home provides full-time foster care for neglected and dependent boys and girls.
The Home’s founders, George and Chessie Harris, began serving children in 1954. It was their earnest desire to share their love, compassion and resources with the neglected and destitute children of Huntsville. That desire led to the home’s establishment. In 1957, Harris Home was incorporated and, in 1960, was licensed by the state of Alabama. Harris Home became a United Way of Madison County partner agency in 1961.
