Jacksonville/Onslow Habitat for Humanity was established in 2005 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. Habitat is a non-profit ecumenical Christian organization with the goal to eliminate substandard housing in Onslow County, NC. Habitat for Humanity invites people from all walks of life to work together in partnership to help build and repair homes with families in need. Through volunteer labor and tax deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and renovates simple, decent housing with the help of the homeowner and their families. Each homeowner participates in the process by working a required numbers of hours towards the completion of their home project. As a part of their fundraising efforts, J/O Habitat for Humanity operates a Resale Store, located at 1205 Hargett Street in the New River Shopping Center.
