HFHELC builds new homes in partnership with families in need. Contributions and volunteer hours from businesses, communities and Vail Valley residents make our homes affordable. Families selected are between 25 and 50% of the median income for the valley. Once selected they contribute up to 250 hours of volunteer time (called sweat equity) with Habitat - spent mostly building their home but also working at our outlet store, the Habitat Home Outlet that sells donated building materials and gently used furniture and appliances to the public. Once their homes are complete, they purchase them from Habitat at no profit and pay a no interest mortgage.
