Description
Green Light New Orleans works to reverse global warming by helping New Orleans low- and middle-income families and individuals make the switch from incandescent bulbs to energy efficient compact fluorescent lights, one house at a time. Our strategy is to actually go to the homes of New Orleans residents and install the CFLs ourselves, so the savings are immediate. Installation is done by volunteers from the community and the program is free.
If every household in the U.S. replaced one bulb with a compact fluorescent light (CFL), it would prevent as much pollution as removing 800,000 cars from the road. In addition to the environmental benefits, a CFL uses 75% less energy than an incandescent bulb and lasts 10 times longer, thereby saving the user more than $45 over the life of the bulb.
Green Light New Orleans helps people to lower their energy bills AND gives them an opportunity to actively contribute to global warming solutions.
