Description
Girls on the Run-Chicago (GOTRC) is a non-profit after school program for 3rd through 8th grade girls. Our mission is to use the power of running to educate and prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. Trained volunteers deliver a 24-lesson curriculum to 8-13 year old girls in small groups over the course of 12 weeks. Lessons focus on specific life skills such as healthy decision-making, conflict resolution, healthy eating, body image, leadership and teamwork. Programs meet for one hour twice weekly in the spring and fall. At the end of each program season, the girls participate in a 5K run (3.1 miles) as their capstone achievement.
