Description

Girls on the Run East Central Illinois is a non-profit after school education and empowerment program for girls in 3-5th and 6-8th grades that teaches positive life lessons and values while training for a 5k event near the end of the season. Girls who participate in the program learn about topics ranging from positive self-esteem, responding to peer pressure and bullying, and how to respond to messages presented by the media. The girls also learn about the power of believing in themselves and the importance of community. If girls are unable to pay the registration fee due to financial reasons, they are apply to apply for scholarship. Since our first season, an estimated 35% of participants have benefited from either a full or partial scholarship.
