Established as the Girls Club of Dallas in 1968, Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas inspires all girls to be Strong, Smart and BoldSM by empowering girls to take charge of their lives. It provides female focused programs for ages 6 to 18 after school and all day in the summer that encourage youth to discover their potential and grow in a sense of responsibility to self, family and community.
With six centers in the high-risk Dallas communities of Oak Cliff, South Dallas, West Dallas, Pleasant Grove, Love Field and Parkwoods area 75233, we also have 74 outreach locations.
We serve over 29,000 girls and their families annually; 2,020 in our centers. Overall girls are 60% African-American and 39% Hispanic; over 50% have families earning less than $16,000 per year; and 68% of girls live with a single parent or guardian. In 2006, 100% of Girls Inc. members remained pregnancy-free, substance abuse-free, and 100% of eligible Girls Inc. high school seniors graduated.
