Description
Gateway High School is an urban, charter, public high school in the San Francisco serving 450 students chosen by lottery.
Many students arrive reading at the 5th grade level and, despite this, and the fact that a quarter have learning disabilities, every year almost 100% go onto colleges around the country, a true testament to the work of phenomenal teachers, tutors and small class sizes.
As a charter school, under the school district, we have our own board and head of school who can make autonomous decisions to effect excellence in the school.
Last year 91% of our parents participated in our fundraising. We have an active fundraising program to raise the funds to fill the "gap" between public funding and what it really costs to support our unique program.
We have been written up in the US Department of Education as one of the top 8 high schools in the country and in the Govenor's book on What Works in Public Education.
