Description
The Friends of Hawthorn Children' Psychiatric Hospital Auxiliary provides services the State of Missouri hospital budget does not provide. Examples are the Reading Is Fundamental program which provides the hospital patients with free book for then to read during quiet time and in silent reading time in the six school classrooms.
Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital is the only free standing children's psychiatric hospital in the state and owned by the Missouri Department of Mental Health. The hospital is mandated to serve the children of low income parents of parents who have exhausted their private insurance, or do not have private insurance, but their children are still in need of mental health services.
The hospital provides services for children from the age of six to eighteen and from the eastern 1/3 of the state.
