Description

The mission of the Freeman Community Foundation is to attract charitable donations and distribute grants for the purpose of benefiting the social and economic well-being of the community.

THE FREEMAN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION WAS FORMED IN 1997 AS PART OF A CHALLENGE GRANT WITH THE SOUTH DAKOTA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION. THE FREEMAN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION WAS CHALLENGED TO RAISE $100,000 BY JULY 1, 2000, AND IF THAT GOAL WAS MET, THE SDCF AGREED TO ADD $50,000 TO THE FREEMAN ACCOUNT. BY THAT DATE, THE FCF HAD RAISED $108,694.87, WHICH, WHEN COMBINED WITH THE SDCF MATCHING FUNDS, RAISED THE FCF STARTING ENDOWMENT TO $158,694.87. THIS ENDOWMENT TOTAL INCREASES WITH EACH ADDITIONAL GIFT TO THE FCF. FIVE PERCENT OF THE PRINCIPAL ON THESE ENDOWED FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE EACH YEAR FOR GRANTING TO NOT FOR PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS WITHIN THE FREEMAN COMMUNITY. THE FCF PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR INDIVIDUALS TO LEAVE A LASTING LEGACY TO THE COMMUNITY.
